MengJie Hu

Mengjie HU, MSc, is a PhD student working at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the University of Melbourne. Prior to beginning the PhD program, Mengjie worked as a project leader and chief investigator in WuXi Apptec Co. Ltd.(Shanghai), an international pharmaceutical outsourcing company. She led in the successful completion of a variety of pilot research projects with US BioMarin Co. Ltd. involving large-scale protein expression from gene construction to purification of recombinant proteins in mammalian cells. She has also consolidated collaborations with France-based biotechnology companies, resulting in an inflow of over $40,000 per calendar month. From this work, she developed effective communication and negotiation skills with hands-on research experience in large-scale enzyme-making and activity testing. She is currently working on research project exploring the impact of respiratory syncytial virus infection on host cell mitochondria through collaborations with the Microbiology Department of the University of Melbourne, Baker IDI Institute, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Monash Micro Imaging and the Department of Microbiology in Monash University.
